...... and other mammals

This wild cat was photographed at an altitude of about 3,500 m near Colca. It was early morning, and we'd just left our remote lodge on the way to Colca canyon. The coach driver suddenly stopped, and our guide called out, "Cat" - he was amazed, as was I. From where I was sitting on the right hand side of the coach, I could see the form a cat scrambling up the vertical cliff face at the side of the road. Luckily I had my camera in my hand and switched on, and in manual exposure mode correctly set. In reflex action, I blasted it through the coach window. In seconds it was gone. The markings are clearly that of a Pampas Cat. The photos are in focus too. This was probably the luckiest find of the trip.
